Trying to lose weight on Mirtazapine?

Hey guys, I’m on 15 mg of Mirtazapine (probably upping to 30 soon) to help treat my anxiety.

Who of you is on any anti-depressants and finds it hard to lose weight? At the moment I’m pretty down, I’ve gained 900g in a week. My appetite has skyrocketed since starting this drug. I don’t mean “Oh, I feel a little peckish here and there.” I mean like ridiculous munchies type, never feel full sort of appetite. Mirtazapine is often used as an appetite stimulant in animals and humans. (FUCK)

If anyone has any tips or words of encouragement please help! The best I have been able to do lately is just eat healthy as possible when I do eat too many calories for weightloss.

I’ve heard that upping the dose actually decreases this side effect, so hopefully that works for me, because I’m going to have to don my swim suit soon and I am not comfortable with that idea at all at this point.

HELP

Absolutely!

Chocolate Quinoa Brownies (vegan, gluten free)
Altered from healthyblenderrecipes.com
Serves 15

These brownies were actually meant to be cookies, but since I replaced whole almond in the original recipe with almond meal the dough ended up being a lot like cake batter, so I decided to cook it in a pan! What I ended up with was delicious, can’t believe they’re healthy, doughy chocolate brownies!

Ingredients
2 flax/chia eggs (1 T flax meal + 1 T chia seeds + 6 T warm water)
1.25 cups almond meal
1 cup cooked quinoa (1/3 cup dry, cooked per instructions)
1 tbs cacao
3/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup almond butter
1 Tbsp coconut oil
1/4 cup apple sauce
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
6 squared 85% Lindt dark chocolate

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180c degrees
  2. In a small bowl combine flax meal (or ground flax seeds), chia seed and warm water. Whisk well and set aside.
  3. In a food processor combine almond meal and cooked quinoa. Process until blended well. Add baking soda, cacao and salt and process until blended.
  4. Heat a small saucepan to medium low and add almond butter and coconut oil. Cook until coconut oil and almond butter are melted, whisking occasionally. Add in apple sauce and maple syrup and whisk until heated through. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and flax/chia egg.
  5. Add the warm almond butter mixture to your food processor and process blended. Immediately add in the chocolate and process until it’s melted and blended, stopping to scrape down the sides as necessary.
  6. Pour the batter into an 8x8 inch pan and bake for 25 minutes. Allow to cool before slicing into squares.

You could add anything else you want to your brownies like nuts or cherries for some variation.
